5 Years (and counting): A letter to my groom

For 6 years we’ve known each other; for 5 years we’ve been married; and since the moment I heard my first love story, you’ve had my heart. You are human, flawed, and unable to be all things to all people. But you are perfect…for me.
Your mind soars so high that sometimes you need a lasso to rein it in. Before I met you, it was difficult for me to imagine someone whose mind had larger wings than mine. I’m so glad I don’t have to soar alone. Your heart yearns to find truth and goodness, no matter how far off the beaten path it may take you. The roads less traveled turn from frightening to mystical—even beautiful—when I’m by your side. Thank you for taking us out of the mainstream and onto this adventurous narrow path.
You are passing on to our children the principles of love, leadership, and learning. You are showing them the value of work, stewardship, and play. I’ve watched you grow in confidence as you lead our family and the farm, and I can’t help but bubble with pride. You seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God. You, my love, are perfect for me.
You need change, freedom, and a place to test-drive your ideas. You need peace, space, and good food. You are fueled by learning and love. You prefer new to old, and gray to black-and-white. You are blown away by the big picture of God’s overarching plan. Oh, and you love me like crazy! J
And I, Shawn Zimmerman, love you to the moon, the stars, and beyond…. You are indeed beyond what I could have ever imagined.
With all the love this heart can hold,
Your Courtney
