The Best Kind of Birthday Icing

Shawn enters the third decade of his life on Monday (30 on the 3rd). The celebration will last a few days, and Saturday marked the kick-off of the fun.

By 8:30 a.m. Shawn was in the kitchen vigorously whipping up his beloved chocolate-mint bars.


Then he and the kids headed to Kiwoko to watch rally cars speed through town. I stayed back and cooked up some rather amazing beef bourgignon...


and a mediocre, lopsided chocolate cake.


The icing on the cake was not, really, the chocolate frosting you see above. It was those precious first steps AJ took in the midst of the cooking frenzy! (No picture... :-( )

So here's to a great start to some fabulous celebrations!
